Improving multi-agency information sharing

Date: Monday, 07th Aug 2023 | Category: General

A new policy paper from the Department of Education says that poor information sharing across agencies is often mentioned in case reviews where a child has died or been seriously injured. Learning from local Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews also reflects this here in Staffordshire.

The paper says improvements are being made, but there are still barriers to overcome.

Recommendations to overcome these barriers include:

  • Using secure cross-agency systems that allow the necessary information to be used by the right people at the right time;
  • Using an accurate and well-maintained ‘golden record’ about a child/family;
  • Developing confident practitioners who know and understand their roles and responsibilities for sharing and seeking information and know how to do this effectively.
